An event dedicated to March 10 – Azerbaijan National Theatre Day was held at Nakhchivan State University.

Aztəhsil.az reports that Gülkhara Ahmadova, Head of the Department of “Theatre and Cultural Studies”, Doctor of Philosophy in Philology, Associate Professor, who opened the event with an introductory speech, emphasized in her address that the annual celebration of National Theatre Day has already become a tradition.

She stated that on this occasion, various theatrical performances are prepared and presented to the audience, and the organization of such events plays a significant role in increasing interest in this art.

Under the direction of Nurbaniz Bagirova, a teacher and director at the University's “Theatre and Cultural Studies” Department, a play of the same name, based on the work “Sometimes They Call Me an Angel” by writer-dramatist Kamal Abdulla, was performed by second-year students specializing in “Acting” on the stage of the Student Theatre Studio.

This stage production, with Gulkhara Ahmadova as artistic director and Javid Ismayilov as set designer, was met with great interest by the audience.

After the performance, Elbrus Isayev, Rector of NDU, delivered a speech, congratulating the actors on the significant day and highly appreciating the activities of students who successfully represent the university in events held in the autonomous republic, as well as at national and international levels. The Rector emphasized that the achievements of the students are a primary source of pride for the university.

Elbrus Isayev also added that renowned artists from the country are involved in the teaching process in the field of acting at the higher education institution, which significantly contributes to the professional development of young actors.

At the end of his speech, the Rector highly praised the activities of the Student Theatre Studio and wished success to everyone working in this field. He stated that such significant days hold special importance for the preservation of theatre art, the training of young actors, and the promotion of national theatre heritage.

At the end of the event, a group of teachers and students from the Faculty of Arts were awarded certificates of appreciation for their contributions to enriching the cultural life of the university and for their effective activities throughout 2025.
